Paul Philipp
1918 Wien-2004 Paris Composer and singer. Born in Vienna, he studied drama, film and operetta at the Wiener Konservatorium. First engagements Eden Bar, 'Café Hochhaus', Sofia and Prague.
1937 Silver Award Jazz Singer Competition in Vienna; became singer with leading dance orchestra (Ballorchester Leo Jaritz). Two weeks before the annexation of Austria he was en route in France with a Viennese revue company. In France winner of the 'Music Hall des Jeunes' competition, radio performances in 'Music Hall de Dimanche' of Radio Cité and contracts for Paris and Nice performances. 1941 he fled to Spain, where he was interned in the Miranda del Hebro internment camp. After liberation fresh start in Madrid, participation in the film 'El Camino de Babel'. As soon as France was free again he returned to Paris. Own show with Radio Diffusion Francaise, engaged among others at the 'Le boef sur le toit' cabaret. 1947 emigration to the USA, after a new start as a jazz singer, he finally decided to study psychology.
